Reading assignment:   __Psalm 119:145-176    __Psalm 120 through Psalm 121

Focal verse(s):  Psalm 121:1-2 – “I lift up my eyes to the hills- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

As we conclude the longest chapter in the Bible, notice that the Psalmist “cries with his whole heart to God.”  Any believer who prays with fervency will never go unanswered!  The author of this Psalm petitions God to “consider my affliction” and begs the Lord to deliver him.  He says that he praises God “seven times a day”.  Devout Jews literally would praise God twice in the morning before reading the Decalogue, once after reading it, two times in the evening before the second reading, and once after, for a total of seven times.  The last verse of Psalm 119 shows the Psalmist’s great humility because he admits going “astray like a lost sheep” and asks God to seek him because he has not forgotten the Lord’s commandments.  Psalm 120 is a cry for deliverance, showing the patience and suffering of the church amid a cruel world.  The 121st Psalm shows the Psalmist’s unquestioning trust in the Lord amid a sense of uncertainty.  Every growing Christian should have a hunger for God’s Word like this Psalmist and should humbly seek God’s forgiveness daily for the scores of sins he knows he has committed.  A hermit, after renouncing the world and giving up all material possessions, still found no peace.  It seemed to him in his lonely cell that the Lord was asking something more.  But I have given you everything!” cried the hermit.  “All but one thing” answered the Lord.  “What is it, Lord?” The Lord replied, “It is your sins.” *   We must give our sins to the Lord every day!  This daily cleansing and seeking process assures that we stay in fellowship with our Heavenly Father!
